Saturday 21 May 2022, launch day of Batch 3 from Bladnoch’s Waterfall Series.

What is Waterfall?

The Waterfall Series is the brain child of Master Distiller Nick Savage. Whisky is matured in a different cask each year. This annual change of cask type develops new layers of flavour. In each subsequent year the remaining whisky will be decanted into a new cask type to develop the next profile

Over the course of 5 years Bladnoch plan to release 1000 bottles each year and are exclusively sold at the distillery.

As per the diagram above we are now enjoying the fruits of year 3 which was finished in a Port Pipe cask.

Arriving at the distillery 15 mins before opening I was surprised by the size of the line outside, it took almost an hour to get into the visitor centre to nab my coveted bottling

Tasting

Also booked onto a vertical tasting hosted by Master Distiller Nick Savage. Nick talked about all things whisky as well as some insight to what was behind the Waterfall process. fascinating to get an idea of why each casks type had been chosen and what He expected it do to the flavours. We then tasted each of the 3 releases, where we could follow the story that was being told.

Dram Good Times

what then followed was an amazing day meeting people I’d only ever interacted with online who were also fans of the Distillery, a coffee and chat in café soon turned to drams in Distillery gardens where we shared many different bottlings, stories and laughs.

Cocktails & Chat

Next up was Will Pitchforth, Bladnoch’s Head of Commercial to demonstrate some cocktails using whisky from the Pure Scot range, the Midnight Peat Espresso was just delicious before he and some other staff joined us for drinks and chat.
